In a nutshell
The Xepep website does not install any first-party, analytics or advertising cookies. We only store one technical item in your browser: the choice you make in the cookie notice. The only external service that may use cookies is the Google Maps map, and it is only loaded if you accept it in the cookie notice or click ‘Show the Google map’.
What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser to remember information between one visit and the next. Local storage (localStorage) does a similar job: it is a space in the browser itself where a website can leave a piece of data and read it later. Unlike cookies, that data is not sent to our server with every visit; it stays on your device.
Spanish law (Article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI-CE)) treats cookies and any other browser storage technique in the same way. That’s why we explain both here. The law requires us to ask your permission before storing data that is not strictly necessary; data that is, such as remembering your choice about cookies, is exempt from that consent, although we must still tell you about it.
What exactly we store
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | First-party or third-party |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| xepep-consentimiento | Local storage (localStorage), technical and necessary | To remember whether you have accepted, rejected or configured the cookie notice, so we don’t ask you again on every page and we respect your decision | Persistent: until you delete it from your browser (if you change your choice, it is updated; we will ask you again after 24 months) | First-party (xepep.es) |
| xepep-aviso-cerrado | Local storage (localStorage), technical | To remember that you have closed the notice of the day at the top of the page, so the same notice is not shown to you again | Persistent: until you delete it from your browser (it only stores the identifier of the last notice you closed) | First-party (xepep.es) |
| Google Maps cookies | Third-party cookies (only if you load the map) | To display the map; Google may use them in line with its policy | Whatever Google sets (policy) | Third-party (Google) |
This item does not identify you, is not used for advertising or to measure your browsing, and is not shared with anyone. If you delete it, the website will simply show you the cookie notice again.
Third-party services the website may load
Google Maps. On some pages we show a Google Maps map. The map is served by Google and, when it loads, Google may install and read its own cookies in line with its policy, which you can read at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. That’s why the map isn’t loaded by default: it only appears if you accept it in the cookie notice or click the ‘Show the Google map’ button. Until you do, Google receives nothing from that part of the website.
Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp and Google. The links to our social networks, to WhatsApp and to Google are ordinary links. They do not load any content, script or cookie while you browse our website. Only when you click one of them do you go to that service, which from then on applies its own privacy and cookie policies.
How to accept, reject or change your choice
The first time you visit the website, you’ll see a cookie notice with three options. The three buttons are shown at the same level and with the same prominence.
- Accept: you allow the Google Maps map to load when it appears on a page.
- Reject: the map is not loaded and Google receives no data from it. The rest of the website works normally.
- Customise: you can switch the ‘Third-party services (Google Maps)’ category on or off and save your choice.
Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and your choice is saved under the ‘xepep-consentimiento’ key described above. On the recommendation of the AEPD (the Spanish data protection authority), we will ask you again after 24 months.
You can change your mind at any time using the ‘Cookie settings’ link in the footer of every page. If you withdraw your acceptance, the map will stop loading from that moment on; any cookies Google has already installed can be deleted from your browser, as we explain below.
How to delete local storage in your browser
You can delete the ‘xepep-consentimiento’ key (and any other data from the site) as follows. If you did load the map, Google’s cookies are stored under Google’s domains (google.com): look for them by that name in the same menus. Menu names may vary slightly depending on your browser version.
- Google Chrome: Settings › Privacy and security › Site settings › View permissions and data stored across sites. Search for ‘xepep.es’ and click the bin icon.
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings › Privacy & Security › Cookies and Site Data › Manage Data… Search for ‘xepep.es’, select it and click ‘Remove Selected’.
- Safari (Mac): Safari › Settings › Privacy › Manage Website Data… Search for ‘xepep.es’ and click ‘Remove’. On iPhone or iPad: Settings › Apps › Safari › Advanced › Website Data (in earlier versions of iOS, Settings › Safari › Advanced).
- Microsoft Edge: Settings › Cookies and site permissions › Manage and delete cookies and site data › See all cookies and site data. Search for ‘xepep.es’ and delete it.
In most browsers, you can also click the icon to the left of the web address, open the site information and delete its data from there. If you browse in private or incognito mode, the browser deletes this data automatically when you close the window.
Changes to this policy
If in the future we add any tool that uses cookies or local storage other than what we describe here, we will update this page before activating it and, where the law requires it, we will ask for your permission beforehand through the cookie notice.
