Working calendar for the province of Alicante: local holidays

The 2026 working calendar for Alicante is not one calendar but 143: the 141 municipalities of the province and their two minor local entities each have two days of their own off, on top of the twelve public holidays for the whole Valencian Community. Your town is listed here, arranged by the nine comarcas that run from the Marina Alta to the Baix Segura (Vega Baja), with the reason given in the DOGV (the regional official gazette). The twelve general ones, with their legislation, are on Valencian Community public holidays.

Local holidays in 2026: why every town has different days off

Local holidays are chosen by each town’s full council, collected by the regional employment department and published in a DOGV resolution; the 2026 one came out on 14 November 2025. That is why very different calendars sit a few kilometres apart. In Aspe they are 12 February (the Jira) and 5 August (Virgen de las Nieves), and Hondón de las Nieves has the same dates. In Petrer, 18 May (Moors and Christians) and 7 October (Virgen del Remedio); in Elda, 8 and 9 September, for its patron saint fiestas; in Novelda, 13 April and 22 July. Sax has 3 February (St Blaise) and 26 December.

St Vincent’s Monday and other dates that repeat

In 2026, Monday 13 April, the day of St Vincent Ferrer, is the most common local holiday in the province: 45 municipalities and the minor local entity of Jesús Pobre chose it, among them Elche, Novelda, Villena and Monòver. Well behind, three dates are tied on nine municipalities each: 2 April, Maundy Thursday (in Crevillent, for example), 8 September and 7 December. Another eight municipalities have 20 March off, the day after St Joseph’s Day. In the city of Alicante, the 2026 local holidays are 16 April (Santa Faz) and 23 June (Fogueres de Sant Joan): the fiesta is described in Alicante fiestas.

Corrections and confusing names

A published local holiday can change. To date the DOGV has corrected the 2026 resolution twice, on 15 January and 3 March, and in this province they affect Alcosser, Onil, Penàguila and Orba; in 2025 there were six corrections, up to June. The dates on this page already include them. The DOGV also does not standardise place names: you will see “ELCHE” and “MONOVAR” where you might expect Elx and Monòver, and it mixes Spanish and Valencian. If you cannot find your town, try the other form of the name.

And in 2027, for now, only the regional ones

The 2027 local holidays have not been published: they are expected between mid-November and mid-December 2026. What is settled is the Community’s twelve, with one change that affects this province: St John’s Day stops being a regional holiday. If 24 June was a day off in your town, in 2027 it will only be a holiday if the full council has chosen it as a local one, and that will be known when the resolution comes out.

A kitchen in the province

Our kitchen is in Aspe and these dates set our working diary: in the Vinalopó, in Elche and in Alicante. If you are planning the meal for your fiesta, get a quote and tell us how many of you there are and which days you have off, or see how we work on local fiestas. And for Hogueras and barracas (the fiesta marquees), here are our services for the Hogueras.
