St Vincent Ferrer: is it a public holiday?

St Vincent Ferrer: is it a public holiday?

St Vincent Ferrer is a day off in more than 200 Valencian municipalities, but not across the whole Community: it is chosen town by town as a local holiday, and that is why the answer to “is it a public holiday?” changes from one town to the next. Here is what the DOGV (the regional official gazette) and the town councils say.

Is St Vincent Ferrer a public holiday? Only as a local one

Neither Decree 100/2025 (the 2026 calendar) nor Decree 42/2026 (the 2027 calendar) includes St Vincent Ferrer among the Valencian Community’s public holidays. It is a local holiday: each town council chooses its two days a year and one of them can be this one. The 2026 DOGV resolution records it on Monday 13 April in more than 200 municipalities across the three provinces: specifically, 201 municipalities and 4 minor local entities (46 entries in the province of Alicante, 32 in Castellón and 127 in Valencia). In Alicante it appears, among others, in Elche, Novelda, Villena, Monòver and Sant Vicent del Raspeig. The city of Valencia had it on 13 April 2026, and for 2027 its full council approved 5 April in July 2026, pending only publication in the DOGV.

The Monday rule

The Valencian fiesta does not follow the calendar of saints, which puts St Vincent Ferrer on 5 April, but Easter: it is the Monday after Easter Monday, eight days after Easter Sunday. In 2026 Easter was on 5 April, Easter Monday on the 6th and St Vincent Ferrer on the 13th. In 2027 Easter is on 28 March, Easter Monday on the 29th and the Monday after on 5 April, the day Valencia has approved (which, by coincidence, matches the calendar of saints). Some town councils therefore call it the “segundo lunes de Pascua” (second Easter Monday), as Novelda did in the 2026 DOGV. The date of the first Monday is under Easter Monday.

For the other town councils, the 2027 local holidays will come out in the DOGV, probably between mid-November and mid-December. Until then, 5 April does not appear as a local holiday in any published resolution: Valencia’s is a full council decision still waiting for the DOGV.

Ferrer or Martyr?

There are two St Vincents and they get confused. St Vincent Ferrer is the April one, celebrated after Easter. St Vincent the Martyr is the January one: in the city of Valencia, the local holiday of 22 January, which is the other day the full council approved for 2027. If you are searching for “St Vincent holiday”, check which of the two you mean.

Fiestas with a name of their own

In Sant Vicent del Raspeig, St Vincent’s Monday is part of patron saint fiestas and Moors and Christians with a variable date after Holy Week; in 2026, the official programme ran from 7 to 19 April. In Elche, according to the City Council, the hamlets of Perleta and Maitino hold a giant paella for St Vincent Ferrer, the “segundo lunes de mona” (second Monday of mona, the Easter cake).

If you are organising a meal

If your committee is preparing the St Vincent’s Monday meal, see the giant paella or get a quote with the date and the number of guests. In the province of Alicante we cook from Aspe, so we are close by in Elche and throughout our catering in Aspe and the Vinalopó area. For more public holidays in the area, see the Valencian Community public holidays calendar and the calendar hub.

St Vincent Ferrer: is it a public holiday?

Frequently asked questions

What day is St Vincent Ferrer celebrated?

In practice, on the Monday after Easter Monday: it was 13 April in 2026 and in 2027 it will fall on 5 April, the day the full Valencia City Council has already approved as a local holiday. It is not a fixed date nor a regional one: each town council decides whether to include it among its two local holidays. Do not confuse it with St Vincent the Martyr, on 22 January.

Is St Vincent Ferrer a public holiday in the Valencian Community?

It is not a regional public holiday: neither the 2026 nor the 2027 decree includes it. It is a local holiday only in the municipalities that ask for it. In 2026, the DOGV resolution recorded it on 13 April in 201 municipalities and 4 minor local entities, spread across all three provinces. Check your own municipality’s calendar.

When are the fiestas in Sant Vicent del Raspeig?

The patron saint fiestas and Moors and Christians of Sant Vicent del Raspeig are held after Holy Week, with a variable date. In 2026, the official programme ran from 7 to 19 April, and the DOGV set 13 and 14 April as local holidays, St Vincent’s Monday and the Tuesday after. There is no source yet for the 2027 ones.
