Monforte del Cid fiestas: Moors and Christians and summer

Monforte del Cid’s fiestas are split between December, with the Moors and Christians of the Purísima, and a summer in which every neighbourhood, hamlet or housing estate has its own week. Monforte borders Aspe, so here we are talking about neighbours.

Monforte del Cid’s Moors and Christians, in December

Monforte’s patron saint is the Purísima Concepción (the Immaculate Conception), whose day is 8 December. The Moors and Christians are held in her honour and, according to the Town Council, in 2026 they will run from 5 to 9 December, the same dates given in the Generalitat’s register of fiestas. They hold Provincial Tourist Interest status. If a guide gives you one day fewer, go by the municipal date. The weeks before are lively too: according to the register, the drum goes out on the four Sundays before 5 December, and on that day the fiesta begins with the Alborada (the dawn call).

We have not found the names or number of its comparsas published, so we do not give them. What a comparsa is and what happens in a cuartelillo (a troupe’s clubhouse) is explained in the glossary. A summer of seven fiestas

The 2026 municipal calendar lists seven fiestas between July and September: Alenda (24-26 July), La Capitana (7-9 August), San Roque (9-16 August), Montecid (17-23 August), San Ramón (26-31 August), Orito (31 August to 8 September) and Santo Cristo (9-14 September). The 2027 ones are not published yet.

At San Ramón, the 2026 fiestas included a giant community paella on Saturday 29 August at 14:00 and gachamigas (a traditional fried flour dish) on Sunday 30 at 10:00, with the ingredients provided by the organisers. Other dates and local holidays

Monforte also celebrates the Ibero-Roman Fair (Feria Íbero-Romana), which in 2026 held its second edition from 16 to 18 October. As for holidays, the DOGV (the regional official gazette) lists 7 and 9 December for 2026, with no reason given, in the middle of Moors and Christians week. The 2027 ones are not published yet.
